GlossGenius and the One Thing a Solo Stylist Cannot Automate

GlossGenius is built for people who are the whole business: you cut, you book, you invoice, you post. It covers the booking and the money well.
Then there is the part nobody automated for you — the conversation. A new client messages at nine in the evening asking whether you do color corrections and what it costs. You are either with someone, or you are done for the day and finally sitting down.
Solo means the receptionist is also you
A salon with a front desk can hand this off. A solo stylist cannot, so the options are bad ones: answer between clients and give a rushed price, or answer at night and give up the evening, or answer tomorrow and lose the client.
That is the whole problem an AI receptionist solves. Not marketing, not funnels — just answering the way you would, right away.
What it actually answers
It reads your website or your booking page and learns the specifics: services, prices, how long things take, what you do not do, where you are, your policy on deposits and cancellations. Then it handles the usual:
- price and duration questions, including the “it depends” ones, with the ranges you set;
- whether you take new clients this week;
- what to do about hair coloured somewhere else;
- parking, building entrance, what floor;
- how to book — by handing over your GlossGenius link.
If something is not on your site, it does not invent it. It says so and asks you. You answer once and it knows from then on.
Today it does not read your GlossGenius calendar. It answers and sends the client to your booking page. Direct calendar integrations are being built — Square Appointments first — and we will say when GlossGenius is among them rather than imply it now.
One number worth checking
Before you decide whether this matters, count two things from last month: how many first messages you got, and how many of those turned into an appointment. Solo pros who count this usually find the gap is not in their work — it is in the hours between a question and the answer.
Thirty seconds to see it
Send your website link. You will get a page with an AI receptionist already answering from your own content. Ask it the three questions you are most tired of answering. If it gets them right, it is ready; if it does not, you know exactly what is missing from your site.
